Love is all you need
Love is all you need.
One year ago yesterday, Joe and Brendan were married at the Radisson Blu St. Helen’s Hotel in Dublin. Just 9 months earlier, on May 22nd 2015, Ireland said yes to same sex marriage and love won through.
I have been a wedding photographer for a few years now and I have never felt the immense power of the emotion in that little room at St. Helen’s. It was incredible. The intensity was rising to such a height that we all exploded in tears (and laughter) many times throughout the ceremony. I adore Joe and Brendan but I was not prepared for how overcome I became. I had no tissues and had to take shelter behind my camera. The tears and running nose were joining up and I was mortified! It was such a powerful experience that I will never forget. There was almost a sense of relief that at last two people who were in love could marry, no matter what their gender.
The Power of Love
Love is a wonderful thing. Even at the toughest of times, if there is love shining through, there is hope. We all need love, whatever it’s form. It might be the love of a partner, a child, a parent, a friend, extended family relatives or even the love of a pet. It doesn’t really matter, once we have it.
Life is an ocean and love is a boat, in troubled water that keeps us afloat
The words of The Voyage by Christy Moore are the words that Brendan sang to Joe on their wedding day. When I read them, I think of my own relationship with Malachy and my four girls. I’m no massive Christy Moore fan, but those words are special. Together we set sail…life is an ocean and love is a boat, in troubled water that keeps us afloat. We have had loads thrown at us but love has kept us together and has made us stronger. I know that because we love each other, we will overcome any obstacle that comes our way. We will make it through.
Love is all you need
Love won through over fear on 22nd May 2015 and made our little country a much better place. There was euphoria on the streets of Dublin and across Ireland. Other countries stood up and took notice.
Life is an ocean and love is a boat, in troubled water that keeps us afloat. When we started the voyage, there was just me and you, now gathered round us, we have our own crew.
